THE SHEEP
Where Do the Sheep Come From? Every animal in our flock has been rescued from the meat industry — mostly from livestock markets, farms facing closure, or animals that were about to be sent for slaughter. They live out their natural lives at Fred & Freda's Forever Farm.
Are the Sheep Harmed in the Shearing Process? No. Shearing is essential for a sheep’s health and comfort. Our sheep are handled calmly and respectfully by an experienced shearer to minimise stress. Every fleece is a gift, not a by-product.
Who Does the Wool Come From? Each rug comes from a real sheep with a name, a personality, and a story. Where possible, we share exactly which sheep your fleece came from—so you know the life behind the fibre.
Can I Visit the Farm? We occasionally host open farm days in summer — sign up to our newsletter or follow us on social media to hear about upcoming events. We love welcoming visitors to meet the flock.
THE RUGS & GILETS
What is a Vegetarian Rug? A Sheep Kind rug is made from the wool of sheep who are never harmed or killed. Our sheep are rescued from the meat industry and live out their lives safely and peacefully at Fred and Freda’s Forever Farm in Somerset. Their fleece is gently shorn for their wellbeing, then carefully transformed into a rug or gilet—so the sheep continues to live, grow, and be part of the flock.
Are the Rugs Clean? Yes. Although the fleece keeps its natural look and texture, it is carefully washed and prepared before being made into a rug. We keep the character of the wool—but remove what doesn’t belong.
Do the Rugs Smell? They carry a very light, natural wool scent—clean and subtle. Some people find it comforting and grounding. It will soften further over time in your home.
Will My Rug Shed Fibres? A small amount of shedding is natural, especially at first. This settles as the fibres bed in. Think of it as the fleece finding its place in a new environment.
How Do I Care For My Rug? Care for your rug or gilet as follows: - Shake out or gently air outside - Spot clean with cool water if needed - Avoid harsh washing or machine cleaning - A light vacuum (no beater bar) can be used carefully We include simple care guidance with every rug.
Will My Rug Last? Yes, with gentle care. Your rug is made from strong, natural fibres. Over time, they soften and settle rather than wear out in the way synthetic materials do. Each one ages in its own way
Are All Rugs the Same Shape and Size? No, and that’s part of their beauty. Each rug is shaped by the natural fleece, then gently guided by hand. Some are more organically shaped, others more structured—but none are identical.
I Have Allergies: Are Wool Product Suitable? If you have a known wool allergy, we recommend caution. For general sensitivities, many people find natural wool more breathable and comfortable than synthetic materials—but it is always personal.

ORDERS & DELIVERY
Do you Ship Internationally? Currently we ship within the UK and to selected European countries. If you're outside these regions, please contact us and we'll do our best to help.
How Long Does Delivery Take? All rugs and gilets are sent via tracked courier. UK delivery typically takes 2–4 working days. International orders may take 5–10 working days depending on destination.
Can I Return or Exchange a Rug or Gilet? Because every product is truly one of a kind, we are unable to offer exchanges. However, if your item arrives damaged or is not as described, please contact us within 48 hours and we will make it right. Returns for change of mind may be accepted at our discretion.
Can I Request a Specific Sheep's Fleece? You can absolutely express a preference — contact us to discuss what's available. We cannot guarantee specific fleeces as availability depends on the shearing cycle, but we'll always do our best to match you with a sheep whose story resonates.
